Fears of anti-social behaviour during a football match have led to a dispersal order being implemented.

Gillingham FC host Doncaster Rovers tomorrow (April 27) in the final game of the season in a match which is expected to draw in a higher-than-expected crowd.

In hopes of preventing any unwanted behaviour, extra enforcement will be put in place around Priestfield Stadium in Gillingham between 11am and 7pm.

Roads affected by the dispersal order include Jeffrey Street, Railway Street, Woodlands Road, Ito Way, Sturdee Avenue, Barnsole Road, Gillingham Road and Canterbury Street.

It will also give police extra powers to move on anyone causing a nuisance and, if necessary, arrest those who return to the area once dispersed.

Inspector Mick Hayes said: “This order will be in place as a preventative measure in order to ensure those attending the football match can enjoy their day out without any fear of antisocial behaviour occurring.

“Should anyone be seen committing antisocial behaviour they will be dealt with robustly and will be removed from the area.

“We want to ensure those attending the match can do so safely and have a positive experience and we will not tolerate any intimidating or nuisance behaviour.”

Gillingham is looking to end the season on a high having fallen short of their target of promotion this campaign.

Doncaster come to the Medway currently in fifth and in hot form, winning their last 10 matches, but a loss could see them drop out of the play-off spots.
