A dispersal order has been put in place on busy streets to stamp out dangerous driving.

As a result, officers will be patrolling areas in Medway from 7pm today until 7pm Sunday.

The order has been implemented in response to complaints from residents about an increase in nuisance vehicles and dangerous driving over the last month.

It covers areas in Chatham, Chattenden and Hoo.

Inspector Daniel Blatter said: “Residents have reported concerns about the dangers posed to other road users and the impact on the quality of life of the community.

“The order gives our officers additional powers to move on anyone causing a nuisance and, if necessary, arrest those who return to the area once dispersed.

“Those who persist in this behaviour also risk having their vehicles seized.”

The 48-hour order started at 7pm today and covers the A228.

Roads falling within the enforcement area include Four Elms Hill, Peninsular Way, Ratcliffe Highway, Bell Lane, Leviathon Way, Dock Head Road, Maritime Way, Quayside, Portside View, Wheelwrights Way, Starboard Crescent, Western Avenue and Walter Burke Way.

Alongside those routes, the order also covers the Dockside Outlet Centre and its associated car parks.

While in force, officers can stop anyone involved in antisocial behaviour, move them on from the area and seize vehicles.

People who ignore instructions to leave can be arrested.
