Two crashes outside Strood supermarkets caused traffic jams this afternoon.

The first happened some time after 4pm in Knight Road, outside the Morrisons supermarket.

It is believed to have been a head-on collision with those involved suffering minor injuries.

Police, paramedics and firefighters attended and closed the road for about 45 minutes, severely delaying rush hour traffic.

A large crowd of onlookers also gathered at the scene.

The second crash was more minor and involved two cars at 6.40pm outside Tesco in Commercial Road.

The cars, one of which was a new white Toyota Yaris, are thought to have collided at the junction between Commercial Road and Cuxton Road.

The Toyota appeared to have crashed through a fence and sustained damage to the driver door and wing mirror.

A police spokesman said: "One of the drivers, a woman in her 50s, had a minor facial injury. No one else was injured."
