Officers requested the 38-year-old stop further along the road but Liadi continued to drive his silver Vauxhall Insignia.

He eventually pulled over near his home at The Kell, Gillingham Gate Road, Chatham.

He was asked to give a breath test but initially refused and was arrested – officers later found he didn't have valid licence to drive.

After being taken to the police station, Liadi did a breath test and failed it.

He appeared before magistrates on October 19, and admitted drink-driving and driving without a licence on September 29.

The court heard when tested he gave a reading of 83 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, the legal limit is 35.

Neil Sweeney, prosecuting, said: "He initially refused a breath test, but did one at the police station. He's of previous good character."

The court also heard Liadi had an international driving licence but had applied for a provisional one in this country.

That application cancelled his right to drive on his international driving licence.

Defending himself, Liadi said: "I have never done this before I am so sorry, it will never happen again."

Magistrates banned him from driving for 20 months for the drink-driving offence and fined him and ordered he pay a victim surcharge and court costs totalling £253.

His provisional licence was also endorsed.
