A driver has been taken to hospital after his car careered into a wall, closing a busy commuter route.

City Way in Rochester was shut in both directions following the crash at around 3.25am.

No other cars were involved.

A Kent Police spokesman said: "Officers attended alongside the South East Coast Ambulance Service, who escorted one man to a London hospital."

The stretch of the A229 City Way between A2 New Road and Howard Avenue reopened just after 7am.
