A man who was arrested after a stalwart Gills fan died in a crash has been released from custody.
Pedestrian Brian Durden was involved in a collision as he crossed Four Elms Hill, Chattenden, on Monday at around 6pm near his Wainscott home.
The incident involved a black Peugeot 208 GTI. Mr Durden died at the scene.
A 39-year-old man from Rochester was arrested in connection with the incident and has since been released from custody pending further inquiries.
Tributes flooded in for 69-year-old Mr Durden, including one from Gills Independent supporters' club who dubbed him as "Mr Gillingham."
Mick Crinnion, of Main Road, was one of the first on the scene.
He said: "Someone called 999 and they were told to do CPR. A neighbour went and got a blanket for him.
"It's really terrible. We've tried to get something done about this road for ages, people come flying up here."
Kent Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) is appealing for any witnesses to come forward who may have seen the collision or the vehicle travelling in the Medway Towns area beforehand.
