A driver was arrested in Medway on suspicion of drink driving after giving a reading of 104 milligrams of alcohol - which is almost three times the legal limit.
The detail emerged after a car crashed into the central reservation on the M2 last night.
Officers were called at around 8.30pm to the coastbound carriageway, at junction 2 for the A228, for Strood, near the motorway bridge and a man was taken to hospital.
Kent Police Road's Twitter posted a picture of the car, saying: "One driver in custody for drink driving. Thankfully for them it’s not the mortuary."
A second car was damaged after colliding with debris on the road.
One lane was closed but later reopened at 10pm after the vehicle was removed from the scene.
A man was treated for injuries by paramedics and then taken to hospital.
The driver has since been released pending further investigation.
