A campaign to make motorists kill their speed will see posters showing how may people have been killed or seriously injured on the roads across Medway.
The initiative has been launched by the Kent and Medway Safety Camera Partnership, with the support of head injuries charity, Headway.
The campaign, 'Speed Shatters Life’ reminds motorists the tragic reasons behind fixed camera locations.
The green and white posters will be put up under the speed cameras and displaying the number of casualties in the three years before each camera went in.
Katherine Barrett, from the partnership, said: “The campaign aims to remind road users that cameras have been installed to prevent death and serious injury on roads in Medway and across the county and are not there to make money.
"Each camera acts as a memorial for those who have been killed or seriously injured on the our roads and the partnership hope the campaign will make motorists slow down and think about their driving, not only at the camera sites, but on all stretches of road."
"Since the partnership launched in July 2002 there has been an average 58 per cent reduction in those killed or seriously injured at all our camera sites.
“We hope that on seeing the posters motorists will slow down and stick within the legal speed limit for everyone’s safety.”
Linda Kerley, from Headway added: “Road traffic crashes cause up to 50 per cent of all brain injuries and Headway are therefore more than happy to work with the partnership to help reduce these numbers.
A brain injury is a hidden disability, which effects not only the survivor of a crash but also their family and friends.”
