Gillingham drug dealer Ehis Inegbedion jailed after Chatham car crash

A drug dealer who crashed into two parked cars while trying to escape police has been jailed.

Ehis Inegbedion, 20 and of Third Avenue in Gillingham, crashed into the cars and narrowly missed an oncoming van, after officers in Chatham became suspicious of his behaviour and requested him to stop.

He was sentenced at Maidstone Crown Court on Monday July 31 having pleaded guilty to possessing a knife in a public place, supplying cannabis and dangerous driving.

He was jailed for 21 months and disqualified from driving for three years and ten months.

The court heard that at around 11.20am on Monday June 26 officers on patrol in Beacon Hill, Chatham, noticed Inegbedion attempting to hide his face as he drove past.

They checked the vehicle’s details and found it to have no insurance so requested it to stop, but it failed to do so.

Approximately 200 metres later, and after a van swerved out of the way to avoid him, Inegbedion attempted to force his way through a gap that was too small.

It resulted in a collision with two parked cars.

Inegbedion then attempted to flee the scene on foot and was seen to throw a folding knife, with a blade that was over three inches long, into a nearby garden.

He was then caught and detained by an officer from the Medway Community Policing Team.

A search of the offender’s vehicle then uncovered two bags of cannabis, empty bags used to supply drugs and a mobile phone.

Analysis of the phone revealed he had been supplying the Class B drug.

Police Constable Pete Synczysz, the investigating officer for this case, said: "Inegbedion has shown himself to be a dangerous offender with little regard for the public.

"Not only was he happy to deal drugs, he was prepared to risk the lives of innocent people by speeding in a residential street to and escape police officers.

"He has shown little remorse for his actions and the sentence he has received is entirely appropriate."
