A businessman and father-of-three was found to have a cocaine by-product in his system when he was pulled over in his van one morning.
Chris Long was at the wheel of a white Peugeot Boxer in Ambley Road, Gillingham, when he came to the attention of the police.
Because of the manner of his driving they decided to pull him over at 11am on May 19 as they suspected he may be on drugs.
He was asked to do a roadside saliva test which proved positive for benzoylecgonine, a cocaine by-product, and he was arrested on suspicion of drug driving.
Further checks revealed the 49-year-old, who owns a double glazing firm, also didn’t have a licence or insurance to drive the van.
Long, of Waters Place, Hempstead, was charged with drug driving, driving without a licence and without insurance and admitted all three offences when he appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court on October 4.
Debbie Jones, prosecuting, said blood tests revealed Long had 1,027 micrograms of benzoylecgonine per litre of blood in his system, the legal limit is 50.
The court also heard Long used cocaine occasionally but had taken steps to address his drug issues with a substance misuse provider.
Magistrates banned him from driving for 12 months and fined him £276 for the drug-driving offence. He was also fined £276 for the no insurance offence and his licence was endorsed.
