Police have released an e-fit image of a man they want to speak to after a pensioner’s treasured possessions were stolen.

Kent Police has renewed its appeal for witnesses after an elderly man’s home was reportedly burgled while he was distracted by a man claiming to be from the water board.

On Tuesday, April 23, officers were called to Barnsole Road, Gillingham, to reports that a resident had been burgled.

The victim, 87, had answered his door at around midday to a man who said he was there to inspect his drainage pipes.

The victim was aware that routine checks by Southern Water were ongoing in the area and so allowed the man to walk through his home and into the back garden, where they remained for approximately 20 minutes.

When they came back inside, the victim noticed his front door was ajar.

The suspect left, claiming he was parked on double yellow lines.

The victim went upstairs to find items including a diamond ring, a gold watch, a George V sovereign coin and £40 in notes had gone.

Investigating officer, Detective Constable Murray Tester of Kent Police, said: “We are very keen to identify this man so we can speak to him about our investigation.

“If anybody saw this man or has any information about him or this crime, I would be grateful if you could come forward to Kent Police.”

Anyone with information is asked to ring 101, quoting crime reference XY/12388/13, or by contacting Kent Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
