An elderly woman was treated for smoke inhalation after an out-of-control bonfire spread to part of a house.
Firefighters were called to the blaze at a property in Burnt Oak Terrace, Gillingham shortly after 3.30pm yesterday.
Two fire engines were sent to the scene where a bonfire had spread to a fence panel and an outbuilding which was connected to the house.
Crews using breathing apparatus and hose reel jets extinguished the blaze.
A woman in her 70s required first aid and was given oxygen for smoke inhalation before being passed into the care of paramedics.
Firefighters checked for hotspots to ensure the house was unaffected but the outbuilding had suffered fire damage.
The fire service has urged anyone having a bonfire to make sure they never leave them unattended and to keep a bucket of water or garden hose nearby just in case.
They added this was especially important during the current spell of very dry weather.
