Emergency services were called to a stretch of railway after a person was hit by a train.
Services between Faversham and Rainham were disrupted yesterday evening (November 12) following the incident at Teynham.
The line was closed in the aftermath, with rail operator Southeastern telling passengers that trains running between the two stations were delayed by up to 90 minutes or revised.
Police officers, paramedics and fire crews were all called to the scene.
A spokesperson for the Kent Fire and Rescue Service confirmed crews were called to Teynham railway station to assist police officers.
Major travel disruption was first reported at about 6.20pm and the incident was not cleared until around 1am this morning (Wednesday).
In an update issued shortly before 9.10pm yesterday evening, the rail operator said: “Staff are currently getting clear of the line following a person being hit by a train between Faversham and Rainham.
“We are expecting the line to reopen within 10-15 minutes.”
It posted a further update just after 1.20am saying the line was clear.
Rail services due to run between the Medway Towns were diverted along an alternative route.
Replacement buses also ran between Faversham and Sittingbourne and Sittingbourne and Gillingham.
The emergency services have been contacted for further information.
