A sharp leap in the cost of fuel has seen pump prices increase by 1.4% in the past two weeks.
Petrol prices had remained steady in the wake of the Brexit result, remaining in Medway at about £1.10 per litre in July, but that figure has leapt to £1.20 this week, with experts blaming a combination of rising oil prices and the falling value of the pound.
Sainsbury’s at Hempstead Valley Shopping Centre is currently the cheapest place to fill up with unleaded –at just under £1.13 per litre – and offers the cheapest place for diesel, at just under £1.14 per litre.
The most expensive is BP at Farthing Corner M2 services which is charging £1.29 for unleaded and £1.30 for diesel.
With the price of crude oil continuing to rise there has been a return to the norm of increasing petrol prices after a dip which saw them plummet earlier this year to their lowest in six years.
Since then prices have crept up, but the flash crash in the pound earlier this month is being blamed on the recent surge.
