A family are devastated after their dog was killed in a hit-and-run while out for a walk.

Georgia Courtney Jeffery was walking her two dogs in Twydall, near Gillingham, with her four and 11-year-old sons when a car came around the corner of the road with no lights on and without indicating.

The 27-year-old said: "I had just told the boys to cross, to which the dogs understand and started to as well, and a car quickly came around the corner.

"My eldest son Hadley ran to the other side of the road and made it out of the way, and our dog Maci was able to pull back quickly.

"But my youngest son Addison was walking Milo, and couldn’t pull him back quick enough, even with my fast acting and yanking the lead."

Georgia said that Milo, a nine-year-old miniature chihuahua cross-pinscher, went under the first wheel of the car and yelped.

After he got up, the car slowed down slightly but then it continued to move and Milo stumbled. The second wheel ran him over again.

She said: "My body is shaking because it just keeps replaying in my head, over and over.

"I was screaming, my eldest son's reaction was to chase the car – he was in his uniform and had a ruler in his pocket which in the moment he threw at the car.

"The car knew it had hit something, knew it hadn’t indicated and knew it didn’t have lights on when it was dark outside.

"They could clearly hear me and my children screaming in shock and would’ve noticed someone chasing them down the road and throwing something at their car to get their attention, but no, they didn’t stop."

The incident occurred on the corner of Hollingbourne Road at around 7.15pm yesterday (Monday).

Georgia described the car as a light, rose gold colour, fairly old, small, and a boxy-style.

She said: "Milo was such a loved family pet. My children, my partner Jamie and I are heartbroken. To have seen what we did, and experienced what we have I don’t know how we are going to get through it, or how I help my children through such a traumatic, devastating event.

"I don't know how my children are going to cope. I laid with them both, comforting them 'til they fell to sleep last night in our room because they are so upset."

Georgia has not yet reported the incident to police but intends to do so.
