Gillingham’s outdoor swimming pool is normally only open in the summer, when it is frequently graced with blue skies and warm temperatures.
It will be a very different picture on Sunday when The Strand pool is the scene of the Extreme Challenge, part of Medway’s mass swimming event The Big Splash.
So far 24 people have signed up to jump in to the pool which will be a very chilly three degrees!
Medway Sport, who are organising the event, said: "We want people to swim the length of the 25m outdoor pool – but if you’re not feeling as adventurous you can just jump in. Whichever you choose you’re guaranteed to get your heart rate pumping."
According to weather forecasts, those taking part will have a dry day with temperatures around a bracing 7C.
From noon, people are invited to take the plunge. They can scramble straight back out or go for a swim.
It is free and every participant will receive a T-shirt, medal, certificate and, most importantly, a hot drink.
The event is for over 16s and those aged 16 to 18 must attend with a parent or guardian. Spectators are welcome
If you haven't yet registered but are up for the challenge, you can register at 11am tomorrow at The Strand.
The Big Splash, supported by Southern Water, was launched by swimming legend Duncan Goodhew and will see a whole host of fun aquatic events takes place next weekend at Medway Park, Gillingham; Hoo pool, Strood Leisure Centre and Splashes, Rainham.
