A father took brutal revenge after hearing his daughter had been assaulted by her boyfriend, a court heard.
Garry Field went back to his home in Cliffe Woods and gave Garth Murphy “a considerable beating” as he slept after a drinking session.
The victim was allegedly at first held down by Field’s friend Alex Lynam before he tried to stop the attack continuing.
Battered and bleeding, Mr Murphy was taken to hospital and treated for fractures to his cheekbone and jaw.
Wearing an eye patch, he told a jury at Maidstone Crown Court he and Field’s daughter Jade had been drinking heavily, and while watching the nude dating TV programme Naked Attraction, she taunted him.
“She started making derogatory remarks about body size – penis size and things like that – very immature remarks,” he said. “There was a bit of an argument.
“It was getting hot and heavy. I could see it was taking a turn for the worse. I went upstairs to get away and lay in her bed.
“She came in and threw a mobile phone at the back of my head. I said: 'The first one is free. Now leave me alone'.”
Mr Murphy said after a while he went downstairs to confront Miss Field. He picked up her mobile phone and threw it on the floor.
“It was the worst thing to do because it was like a red rag to a bull,” he said. “She went crazy. She ran up to me and scratched my face. I responded in defence.
“I hit her twice. I pushed her on the couch and said: ‘That’s enough.’ It was 2am or 3am. I live in London. I thought if I go to bed she will calm down and everything will be OK.”
He told prosecutor Ed Fowler: “She hit me twice. I don’t know if you have seen her. I am 11 stone, she is 14 or 15 stone. She is stronger than me. I was charged with common assault and pleaded guilty.”
Mr Murphy said he went to bed and awoke to find he was being attacked.
“My face was damaged,” he said. “It was smashed on one side. I was moaning and groaning. I came out of sleep. I didn’t know the other gentleman.
“I could hear him saying ‘He is awake’ to Garry and Jade. With that, Garry came back in. He started going to work on me again, punching and kicking me. The other fellow was pinning me down.
“I couldn’t do anything. I was dazed and disorientated. Jade was saying: ‘Get his phone.’ Garry came back in and gave me another dig.
“The other guy backed away. I think he could see I’d had enough. His friend was going too far. He was pulling him off, trying to stop him.
“I was on death’s doorstep. I was lying in a pool of blood. He (Field) was swearing at me a lot. They were calling me scumbag for hitting a woman, but they didn’t get the full story.”
The victim said he was taken to King's College Hospital in London and treated for his injuries. He was paralysed on the right side of his face.
“I can’t smile any more,” he said. “I have got eight sheets of titanium and screws holding them together.”
The jury was shown body worn footage of the aftermath of the attack, which happened on August 16, last year, with paramedics treating Mr Murphy in an ambulance.
The prosecutor said when Field burst into the bedroom he screamed: “Hit my daughter? What the **** do you think you are doing giving it the biggun?”
After the attack, he told Mr Murphy: “You are lucky the ambulance and police are on the way otherwise you would be ******* dead tonight.”
Field, of Town Road, Cliffe Woods, and Lynam, of Court Bushes, King George Road, Chatham, denied causing grievous bodily harm with intent and an alternative charge of inflicting grievous bodily harm.
Field, 46, was convicted of inflicting grievous bodily harm and Lynam, 41, was acquitted of both charges.
Recorder Neil Cameron QC ordered a psychiatric report on Field and adjourned sentence until June 15.
