Two frightened ferrets have been found abandoned in a crisp box in a field.
Wallace, and his friend, Wendy, were found by a member of the public after they were dumped in a Space Raiders crisp box in Walderslade on Monday.
They were scooped up and taken to the RSPCA's Leybourne Animal Centre in West Malling.
Janine Pemberthy, from the centre, said: “These poor little ferrets were very frightened and one had a nasty injury to her eye which she is now receiving treatment for.
“We’re not sure whether this pair were unwanted pets or whether they’d been used for hunting rabbits previously, which is how one may have received an injury to her eye.
“Either way, as animals who have clearly been kept domestically they wouldn’t have been able to survive on their own, so to abandon them in a box in the middle of a field is disgraceful.
“We’d like to thank the quick-thinking member of the public who found them and brought them to us, where they’re receiving the right treatment and care.”
The ferrets will be cared for by the RSPCA until they are back in full health. If no one comes forward to claim them, they will be rehomed.
“The poor little things are understandably frightened and confused,” Janine added.
“Wallace has been so traumatised by the experience that he was too frightened to come out of his bed at first and would just peer out from under the towels and blankets.
“But he’s slowly starting to trust us and gain confidence. We’re sure that given a bit of time and lots of TLC they’ll both come out of their shells.
