A fire at a school in Gillingham is being treated as suspicious.
The fire, which happened at Napier Primary School yesterday (Tuesday) is being investigated by Medway police and Kent Fire and Rescue Service.
It broke out on the top of a stairwell at the school in Napier Road, at about noon.
Staff evacuated the building and dialed 999.
A crew from Medway fire station used breathing apparatus to enter the building and spent about an hour dealing with the blaze.
A spokesman for KFRS said: “The fire was relatively small, but smoke from it has quickly spread through the stairwell.
“We spent about an hour on the scene making sure all the smoke was out of the building, which was empty by the time we got there as staff had evacuated the school.
"KFRS and police investigators went to the school to investigate the cause of the fire as we believed to be suspicious.”
No-one was injured.
