Emergency services were called to Lines Terrace in Chatham shortly before 1pm today.

A spokesperson said: “There were no reported injuries and the cause is believed to be accidental and linked to cooking overheating in an oven.

“The damage was limited to the kitchen due to the occupier closing the internal kitchen door.”

Firefighters left at 1.20pm.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service warned people to take extra care when cooking as it wasn’t the only call they’d had.

They said: “Crews are asking people to take extra care when cooking their Christmas dinners after a kitchen fire in Chatham and call outs to a few cooking near-misses.

“We're still working as usual this Christmas, so in an emergency call 999.”
