Firefighters have finally left the scene of a major warehouse fire at Chatham docks where people living nearby were warned to keep windows and doors closed.
Up to 50 firefighters were called on Sunday at 3am to the industrial building which contains plastics and rubber and has been giving off black fumes.
Ten fire engines, as well as specialist units, were called in and the smoke was seen billowing across the skyline for miles around.
Crews wearing breathing masks have used ground monitors to tackle the fire with vast quantities of water at ground level, as well as a height vehicle to fight the blaze from above.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service area manager Lee Rose said: "Crews have worked hard in surrounding the fire and are working to extinguish the fire using the resources at our disposal."
A spokesman at the time said people should keep windows and doors closed.
At 9.45am, crews wearing breathing apparatus started to tackle the fire using positive pressure ventilation fans to clear smoke.
Crews from Thameside fire station in Gravesend are among those called to help tackle the blaze, leaving Dartford fire station on standby for any incidents in north Kent.
All firefighters had left the Docks by 10.15pm. A crew went back to check the site in the early hours and said everything was as expected.
