Gala bingo hall in Chatham evacuated

A fault with the heating system has been blamed for an incident that saw the Gala bingo hall in Chatham evacuated.

It was initially claimed on social media that a fire had broken out at the venue in High Street.

But Gala has quashed the rumours and issued an apology to customers who had their night ruined.

A statement from Gala said: "Due to a technical fault with our heating system, we would firstly like to send our upmost apologies to everyone who was evacuated for safety reasons.

"But we are pleased to announce that there was no fire and everything has been rectified.

"We thank the staff and everyone for there co-operation tonight. We also are pleased to announce we will be open for business as usual tomorrow."

Three fire engines were sent to the scene as people were asked to leave the building.
