Brompton Barracks: Firefighters called to Dock Road site in Chatham

A man's being quizzed by police after a blaze at Brompton Barracks.

The fire affected the entrance to the site in Wood Street, Brompton, last night.

Firefighters were called at 6.10pm, and had extinguished the fire by 6.27pm using buckets.

Witnesses claimed they saw a man being wrestled to the ground.

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called to a disturbance outside Brompton Barracks in Dock Road, Chatham, at 6.12pm on Tuesday 11 July 2017.

"Officers attended the scene where a 43-year-old man was arrested for affray, attempted arson and possession of an offensive weapon.

"He remains in police custody and enquiries into the circumstances continue."
