Firefighters tackled a rubbish blaze at a quarry this evening.
People living near Mercury Close, in Rochester, were advised by the fire brigade to close windows and doors as a precaution, due to smoke coming from the fire.
A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “One fire engine and the technical rescue team, were sent to the scene.
“People living near to Mercury Close are no longer advised to close windows following a fire involving a pile of rubbish in a quarry.
“The fire is now out and crews have left the scene.”
No injuries were reported, and the cause is not yet known.
