Stable block destroyed in Rainham farm fire

Stables, machinery and more than 30 tons of hay was destroyed when a blaze broke out on a Rainham farm last night.

Crews were called to the farm in Meresborough Lane, Rainham, at around 10.45pm on Wednesday March 15, where a stable block was reported to be on fire.

The stables, along with hay bales, a 360 digger, other farm equipment and an adjoining lean-to was destroyed before the blaze could be extinguished.

Firefighters kept a watching brief overnight to ensure the fire did not reignite and handed over duty of care to the landowner at around 6am on Thursday morning.

There are no reports of any injuries and the cause of the fire is not known.
