Distraction tactics had to be used after fire fighters were faced with a 'big’ Rottweiler at an address in Rochester.
Crews from both Strood and Grain were called to the scene in Oliver Twist Close at 8.45pm on Wednesday night.
But they got more than they bargained for when they arrived at the house to find a large Rottweiler and its smaller friend, a Yorkshire Terrier, barking at them through a window.
An oven had been left on in the house and although there was no fire a sensitive smoke alarm alerted neighbours who called the emergency services.
A fire fighter from Green Watch, said: “It was a big dog so one crew went round the back and distracted the dogs and we went in through the front and locked them in a back room.
“The owner came back five minutes later, opened the front door and found me standing there, she was very apologetic and grateful.”
No damage was caused to the property.
