Crews tackle trailer fire after shredded paper and mattresses catch alight in Chatham Docks, Gillingham

A fire broke out today in a 40ft trailer full of shredded paper and mattresses at Chatham Docks.

Two crews from Medway fire station were called at about 9.50am to put out the deep seated fire in the trailer which is alight near North Lockside Road, in the dock area.

When they arrived the fire was well alight and it took crews about two hours to bring the flames under control.

Crews used high power water jets to put out the blaze, and left the site at about 1pm.

It is not known at this stage what caused the fire.
