A man who perished in a mystery fire while working abroad, died from smoke inhalation and severe burns, a post-mortem examination has revealed.
The body of Jon Gore has been flown home to the UK from Denmark where an inquest into his death will be held.
His parents Brian and Rita Gore are calling for a full investigation and demanding answers to a raft of questions raised.
The father-of-three was due to fly home the following day and had booked his flight, packed a suitcase and arranged to be picked up at Stansted Airport.
Mr Gore, 48, had sent a text to his mother saying how much he was looking forward to seeing them and said he was coming home “for good”.
The site manager, who was working for Facebook on an island off the mainland, died on Monday, May 20.
The fire broke out in a storeroom in the accommodation block where he was living.
The Danish press has reported it was a possible gas explosion.
He was so badly burned he could only be identified by a serial number on a heart pacemaker.
The Gores, who live at The Queen Mother Court, sheltered housing in Borstal Road, Rochester, claim they have been “kept in the dark by the Danish authorities”.
Mr Gore, 70, a retired cleaning supervisor, said there does not appear to have been a post-mortem carried out in Denmark.
Up until last Thursday they had no idea what the cause of death was after an examination was carried out in the UK.
‘Police there haven’t yet tracked down the last person to see Jon alive.’
He said: “He lived on the site where he was found but we have no idea what he was doing in that room at a time when he was preparing to come home.
“The police there don’t seemed to have tracked down the man who was possibly the last person to see Jon alive, even though he is working there.”
An inquest is due to be held at Archbishop’s Palace in Maidstone on Tuesday, October 15.
Mr Gore’s funeral will be held at Medway Crematorium, Robin Hood Lane, Blue Bell Hill, on Thursday, July 11 at 11.30am.
