Fire crews could be seen fighting a blaze in a town high street last night.
Emergency services were seen outside Sports Direct in Strood following reports of a fire above shops in the area, including Boots, at 8.34pm yesterday.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service could be seen using a ladder to reach the top window of the building.
A spokesman for KFRS said: "Crews were called to Strood High Street to reports of a fire in a flat above commercial premises.
"Two fire engines attended and crews used a hose reel jet to put out a small fire involving a mattress.
"There were no reported injuries, and the fire is believed to have been started deliberately."
Witnesses claimed police had closed the road and were directing motorists away from the area.
Police confirmed that they attended the scene to assist KFRS.
