A Medway firefighter has put out his last blaze and hung up his hose after three-decades at the same station.
Les Evans has been fighting fires for 30 years and has been attached to Strood fire station, in Gravesend Road, for the past 30 years.
He has actually served with the same watch, White Watch, for all that time too.
Les, 50, says he has made some great friends while working for Kent Fire and Rescue Service, and during his time there, has worked alongside eight or nine different station commanders, several different watch commanders and many crew members.
He said: “I will miss the guys from the watch, they are really good mates, it’s like being in a gentleman’s club, I love the culture we have here.
“I don’t think I’ll miss the job all that much, just the guys.”
Les is now going to take things easy with a long holiday in France for a month, then when he gets back he’s going to take up gardening.
He joked: “I’m also going to turn into one of them Sunday drivers who takes their time where ever they go.
“I’m going to drive really slowly so that other motorist have to queue up behind me, for a change.”
