Firefighters on their gruelling charity fun day

Firefighters completed a gruelling fundraising challenge in a day to raise money for a fire service charity.
Four crew members, three from Strood fire station and one from Cliffe, spent a day running, swimming, cycling and canoeing around the county.
Martin Simmons, John Martin, Al Currie and Martin Geer, started off from Cliffe fire station and ran to Strood. Friends and family who met them at Strood Retail Park asked shoppers to donate their spare change.
The next leg of the firefighters' journey involved them cycling eight miles from Strood to Larkfield.
Then the team swam for a mile across lakes at Leybourne, before starting the next leg of the challenge, a nine-mile cycle to Hadlow. They ran four miles to Tonbridge before the last leg of their marathon saw them canoeing to Allington, covering a 19-mile stretch of the River Medway.
They completed the challenge to raise money for The Fire Fighters Charity and so far more than £1,100 has come in.
Event organiser Martin Simmons said: "Every year, thousands of firefighters are injured. The Fire Fighters Charity is here for all fire service personnel during their times of need."
