Police cordoned off a road in Kent following a reported chemical leak.
The emergency services were called to Hillside Avenue in Strood just after 3pm today (Friday) after reports of a strong smell of ammonia.
A woman called 999 because there was a smell in her flat and she didn't know where it was coming from.
Specialist firefighters, trained in dealing with hazardous materials, Kent Police and the South East Coast Ambulance Service are on the scene. Police have set up a cordon and the road is closed to all traffic.
A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue said: "Our officers have been into the flat wearing breathing apparatus and chemical suits to investigate the cause of the smell.
"They identified the fridge as the most likely cause and have removed it from the building.
"They are now in the process of decontaminating themselves.
"One woman is being treated for inhalation of fumes as a precaution."
