Firefighters have issued a warning after a fire destroyed an allotment in the early hours of this morning.

Crews were called out to a shed fire in allotments near Magpie Hall Road and Haig Avenue, Chatham at 12.40am.

A spokesman from Medway station said: "People need to be mindful that they make sure any smoking material, such as bonfires, are fully extinguished before they go home."

One allotment was completely destroyed in the fire. There were no indications that it had be started deliberately.
