Firefighters tackled a chimney fire in Cliffe last night.

Crews were called to Church Street around 7.25pm to reports of the blaze.

One fire engine and a specialist height vehicle were called out.

Using a crane to access the chimney stack, crews removed a chimney pot and surrounding brickwork before extinguishing the fire.

They spent an hour and a half in the street, ensuring the flames in the flue were fully extinguished.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue, said: “People with chimneys should make sure they sweep them on a regular basis and make sure they have smoke alarms."
