The A2 in Rainham was closed this morning following a building fire.

Crews were called to a flat above Rainham Grill kebab shop near Station Road at 2.50am.

The flat and roof space was damaged by fire, the rest of the property was affected by smoke.

Around 25 firefighters were needed to tackle the flames.

There are no reports of any injuries.

A diversion was put in place via Lonsdale Drive but the A2 has now re-opened.
