This is the first computer generated image of how a brand new school will look which is being built on the Hoo Peninsula.
Education officials from Medway Council visited the Hundred of Hoo school last week to mark the start of the work on the new primary school.
It is being built on the Hundred of Hoo school site and will be run by The Williamson Trust, who run various other academies across the Towns.
The visit was arranged so officials from the council could attend a ceremony to mark the start of work on the building.
The new school will run as an all-through academy, providing education for children aged four to 19.
Medway Council is responsible for funding and managing the project.
Extra primary places are needed on the peninsula to cope with the growing population in the Hoo St Werburgh area.
The current academy on the site teaches secondary school pupils from the age of 11 and has been rated good with outstanding features by Ofsted.
Medway Council’s cabinet gave its approval to the expansion and new school in May 2014.
The council identified a demand for places in Hoo in the 2013 update to the School Organisation Plan 2011-16.
The combination of rising birth rates and additional housing being built has led to the increased demand in the area.
After last week’s ceremony, Cllr Andrew Mackness, head of children’s services, said: “The expansion of the Hundred of Hoo Academy will go some way in meeting the demand for primary school places on the peninsula and I look forward to seeing the build progress over the next year.”
