Fred the beloved Chihuahua has been returned to his five-year-old owner - but police are now investigating where he was.

Over a month ago, Fred went missing from his home in Pagitt Street, in Chatham.

His owners, Sian Dale and her children Jacob, 5, Tirian, 9 and Teagan, 12 were distraught.

Fred was a huge part of the family and helped Jacob cope with his blindness and cerebral palsy.

After gaining information about Fred's whereabouts Miss Dale and Jacob's carer Sandra Miller, of Chatham, managed to get him home.

Police have launched an investigation into his disappearance.

Spokesman James Walker said: "Police received a report that a dog was missing from an address in Chatham on March 31.

"A further report has been received stating the dog has been located and is with its owners.

"Inquiries to establish the full circumstances are ongoing."

Sandra Miller said: "It has been lovely to have Fred back home.

"Sian rang Teagan and said, I've got a surprise and you have to get back home.

"She had no idea.

"Jacob was really happy, he was rolling around on the sofa and playing with Fred."
