Heavy rain overnight and this morning in the Towns has caused flooding on roads, including the Medway Tunnel.

Motorists faced delays on the way to work after the approach road to the tunnel and the roundabout near Medway City Estate was partially closed because of flooding.

Motorists trying to get on to the Strood industrial estate faced delays as traffic backed up all the way to Four Elms Hill, in Chattenden.

In the other direction, motorists travelling from the Gillingham, also faced delays as the left hand lane was also closed as a large amount water had collected in the dip of the tunnel.

Traffic around the Towns seemed to crawl at a slow pace during the early morning rush-hour traffic, and some parts of The Esplanade, in Rochester, are also flooded.

There was also a three-car shunt on City Way shortly before 8am, no-one is thought to have suffered serious injury.

Medway police say they have no reports of any serious incidents happening in the Towns overnight as a result of the bad weather.
