A fly-tipper has been slapped with an £800 fine after dumping a bath filled with black bags.
Medway Council took action after the rubbish was left in Otway Street, Chatham, in October last year.
After searching the waste, found near Cromwell Terrace, officers from the local authority found a torn letter addressed to Juraj Strojka in the same street.
The 44-year-old was issued with a fixed penalty notice (FPN) of £200, which would reduce to £120 if paid within 10 days.
Stojka failed to pay the FPN and was sent a reminder in November 2021. When he did not act the case was taken to court.
Stojka pleaded guilty to fly-tipping the bath and household waste at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Friday, August 19.
He was fined him £120 and ordered to pay £294 investigation costs, legal costs of £400 and a victim surcharge of £34, totalling £848.
'Dumping any amount of waste is completely unacceptable...'
Cllr Jane Chitty, Medway Council’s portfolio holder covering enforcement, said: “We take fly-tipping extremely seriously, dumping any amount of waste is completely unacceptable and can lead to fines, or in this case, prosecution.
"We all have a responsibility to keep where we live, work, learn and visit clean and tidy and to dispose of our waste responsibly.
"Fly-tipping is not tolerated in Medway and I would like to thank residents for continuing to report incidents to us.”
