A 45-year-old British man was transported to Sant'Anna hospital by ambulance.

La Provincia di Como, a newspaper covering the region, reported that a brawl broke out between Gillingham supporters and Como fans.

It is believed several hundred Gillingham fans made the trip to follow their team to the lakeside resort in northern Italy.

Gillingham Football Club is visiting the European city as a part of their pre-season training and has a friendly match scheduled with Serie B side Como 1907 this afternoon.

On Monday, the team apologised to fans who had travelled to Italy to support them for scrapping plans for an open training session due to health and safety concerns.

The team is expected to return home later this week, in time for their game with Millwall on Saturday (July 15).
