An investigation has been launched following a reported rape.
Police are investigating after a woman said she was attacked close to the junction of Barnsole Road and Watling Street, Gillingham, overnight Friday.
A 37-year-old Chatham man has been arrested on suspicion of rape and remained in custody as of Monday evening as inquiries continue.
Teams of officers were at the scene outside Kwik Fit over the weekend.
A member of staff in a nearby business, who did not wish to be named, said: "No one knows anything because it happened after midnight and no one was here.
"The next day there were a lot of police cars the whole day. I asked the police what happened and I asked if anyone got hurt."
Others reported seeing three police cars, a van and a forensics vehicle at the scene.
Kwik Fit centre manager Jamie Stairs said he couldn't provide details of the incident but that it had not involved the business itself.
"I've spoken to the police and they've taken CCTV but we don't know any more," he said. "Something happened outside in the car park next to the property, but we don't know any more than that."
Anyone who witnessed anything suspicious is asked to call police on 01634 792209 quoting 46/77607/21.
