Three people have been treated by paramedics following a blaze on an industrial estate.
Firefighters were tackling the flames at the World of London Ltd unit, in Neptune Close on the Medway City Estate this morning (September 25).
A worker from the next-door unit National Windscreens said: “We noticed smoke coming into our building. You could not see the front of the two units as there was so much black smoke.
“It was awful. We are just waiting for the go-ahead to go back inside.”
At around 10.30am, there were six fire engines, a height vehicle, four fire service cars, two ambulances, and a police vehicle, at the scene.
By 11.30am this had been scaled back and only one fire engine remained.
Crews wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the flames using hose reel jets, before using high-pressured fans to clear the property of smoke.
Three people have been treated for suspected smoke inhalation and have been passed into the care of paramedics.
The road had also been closed off but was reopened half an hour later.
Workers from nearby businesses had gathered in the streets to watch the events unfold and many had abandoned their cars as they could not get past.
One said: “I just turned into the road and got stopped. They have blocked the road. More crews have turned up since I got here around 10 minutes ago.”
The cause of the blaze is not yet known.
The Kent Fire and Rescue Service were advising people living or working nearby to close windows and doors due to the smoke but this has since been lifted.
