A fresh call has been made to London Mayor Boris Johnson, asking him to meet Medway councillors about his plan for an airport in the Thames Estuary.
An open letter calling for a meeting between Mr Johnson and Medway councillorss has been released today, Monday.
Council leader Cllr Rodney Chambers initially wrote to the Mayor last year asking to meet him over the proposed scheme. He replied saying that he would not be able to meet himself, but that a meeting could be set up with his deputy mayor Kit Malthouse. This meeting happened last week.
Now, since last week's meeting, Cllr Chambers has written the open letter requesting a meeting with Mr Johnson personally so that Medway councillors can tell the Mayor exactly why the Thames Estuary airport scheme should be shelved.
Cllr Chambers said he feels that it is correct and proper that a meeting between Medway's councillors and the mayor himself, rather than his deputy mayor, takes place.
The letter says: "Hours after our meeting it emerged that your chief engineer behind the airport plan, Doug Oakervee, had suddenly, and somewhat mysteriously, pulled out of an important meeting with the London Assembly on the airport due to take place this week.
Just days later, you were on BBC’s Question Time telling the audience: “I don't want to build an estuary in the, er, an airport in the Thames Estuary.
"This lack of clarity is confusing and I strongly feel this whole matter needs to be cleared up."
