Frozen water pipes thawing may have caused flooding in at least four homes in Chatham early this morning.

Firefighters were called out at about 7am to Watling Avenue, when homeowners called them in after water started to get into their houses.

A crew from Medway fire station went along to help pump the water back out of the homes and stem the flow from the pipe, which is connected to a nearby reservoir.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service, said: "At first the water was gushing out of the pipe, but we managed to stem the flow and then pumped the water out of the homes.

The water level going down in the reservoir also helped.

"None had to leave their homes and we managed to pump the water out of the homes by about 9.45am."
