Petrol prices are on the rise across Medway two months after a battle broke out among supermarkets to provide the best value at the pumps.
In January, motorists felt the benefit in their pockets as fuel costs began to tumble in response to falling oil prices.
Experts even predicted the cost could fall below £1 but it seems far from likely after supermarkets raised their prices once again.
Tesco Extra in Courteney Road, Gillingham; Morrisons in Princes Avenue; and Sainsbury’s at Hempstead Valley were all vying for Medway’s cheapest station.
But in a snapshot survey we can reveal only Sainsbury’s has kept costs below 108p while both Morrisons and Tesco offer drivers 108.9p a litre.
The Esso station in New Road, Chatham, is offering the same price.
The AA’s petrol expert Luke Bodset said prices remained competitive east of London, previously describing it as a “dog fight” to provide the cheapest price.
The hike has been attributed to a rise in oil prices with fears the costs could go up further leading motorist groups to accuse firms of being greedy.
