A pensioner has been chased by an energy company for an unpaid gas bill of almost £500 – but he doesn't even have a gas supply.
Albert Isaac has been told by British Gas that he owes them £473.81, but he maintains he has never had gas in his Rochester flat.
When the other 15 flats at Gainsborough House, in Gravel Walk, were connected to a gas supply several years ago, Mr Isaac's property remained unconnected.
Yet the 73-year-old started receiving bills telling him to pay up for the gas he had supposedly used.
After a visit by an engineer to show them he had no supply, the letters stopped.
But now they have started again - and British Gas has threatened to obtain a warrant to enter his flat and fit a meter or disconnect the supply.
The last letter sent to Mr Isaac said: "Do not underestimate the consequence of not taking action. Call the number above immediately to make full payment."
The company has threatened to charge him an extra £256 to cover their costs for applying for a warrant and disconnecting his supply.
Mr Isaac said: "I shouldn't be getting them. It just keeps on going and going."
The first letter chasing him for payment was sent on June 11 and has since been followed up by two further letters, the last of them dated July 5.
A British Gas spokesman said: "We will be contacting the customer to apologise and confirm there is nothing to pay."
