GCSE and A level exams next week will not be postponed whatever the weather is like.

Schools in Medway are telling pupils to go to school on Monday to take exams even if it snows.

The decision was taken by examining bodies Edexcel, AQA and OCR in conjunction with Ofqual, the independent regulator of exams.

In a statement on its website Ofqual says it discussed rescheduling exams but decided this was not the best course of action.

Some schools have updated their websites telling students to come in for exams. Others have said they will do so over the weekend.

A spokesman for Sir Joseph Williamson’s Mathematical School said: “The GCE examinations in mathematics and critical thinking planned for Monday, January 11 will definitely take place.

“Students in Years 12 and 13 who have been entered for these exams must make every effort to attend school in time for the start of their exam.

“It is not possible to delay the start of an examination, nor to postpone it until a later time or day.

The Greenacre School website also says exams scheduled for Monday must go ahead and The Rochester Grammar School has said its priority is to reopen on Monday for public examinations.

Students not able to get to exams will either have to sit them in the summer or apply for special consideration, where marks from previous exams and coursework are used to calculate a final grade.

Pupils should check on their school’s website for information about exams and opening hours.
