Ghostbusters fan meets Dan Aykroyd and Paul Feig in the West End

A Ghostbusters fanatic has met the maker of the cult movie who is over from the States filming.

Ross Hutchinson, took along his prized possession – a lovingly-restored replica Cadillac - to show off to Dan Aykroyd, the film’s creator and member of the original cast.

As the actor attended a signing to promote his vodka brand in London’s West End, Ross and two mates, who have similar models of the iconic Ecto-1 got together to create an impromptu ‘Ghostbusters fest’ as fans queued up to see the Hollywood A-lister.

Ross, a special needs teacher from Twydall, grabbed the opportunity to meet Dan and other actors who are here for the latest instalment off the smash- hit franchise.

The 44-year-old dad of two said: “We thought it would be a fun idea to kind of entertain those in the queue. We brought that part of Soho virtually to a standstill.

Ross had a chance to recount to him the remarkable tale of how he started off restoring the converted hearse with his fellow petrol head younger brother which for years rusted away on the driveway of his council house home.

His younger sibling Ryde sadly died in a car accident when he was just 18.

After two decades of challenges and setbacks, Ross, who lives in Hempstead, finally got the replica of the car which starred in the original 1984 movie officially on the road.

He was driven by his love of Ryde, having made it just about roadworthy to carry his coffin to his funeral, and for his eight-year-old son Felix, who is one of Ghostbusters’ youngest followers.

He said: “I happened to be carrying a small photo of my brother in his school uniform.

“I carry it around as a sort of good luck talisman when I’m out with the Cadillac. I showed to Dan and asked if he could write something on the back.

“He then wrote a little private message for Ryde on it, proving that he is, as Bill Murray says in the movie, the ‘heart of Ghostbusters’.”

Dan also signed his autograph on the inside of the car and introduced him to Paul Feig, director of the 2016 version who happened to be in town on business.

Given that public UK appearances from Aykroyd are a bit of a rarity, fans traveled far and wide to attend, with members of both Swiss Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters Italia spotted during the events.
