Old Williamsonians (blue and yellow) thrashed Woking 43-0 in their EDF Energy Junior Vase game
Gillingham Anchorians were forced to play a quarter of their EDF Energy Junior Vase game against Old Cranleighans with only 14 men and that disadvantage proved costly.
Mark Dishm was sent to the sin bin just 60 seconds after coming on as a second-half replacement when the referee punished him for a high tackle.
Anchs were leading at the time but the hosts used the extra man to their advantage and eventually won the game 24-22.
Head coach Alex Brown said: "Losing is not in my game plan and I can see from the team that they haven’t enjoyed it either. We suffered from a series of dubious calls from the ref but he can only play what he can see. We lost because we played with only 14 men for 20 minutes."
An early unconverted try from Davison had given Anchs a good start but the hosts hit back and scored a converted try to take a 7-5 lead. By half-time Anchs were back ahead after a rolling maul crossed the line and Craig Webb added the extras.
Paul Evans scored Anchs’ third try in the second half but within 60 seconds the Old Boys scored again themselves and with Dishm heading off the field soon after the tie turned on its head.
Old Williamsonians had no such trouble in their first round match as they comfortably beat Woking 43-0.
