For a pub raffle prize it truly hurdles the competition.

A Gillingham pub manager has claimed she will offer two tickets to the Olympic opening ceremony in a raffle this Friday.

The incredible prize was secured through the charity Children With Cancer, via comedian Dean Courtney, who is hosting a Children in Need night at The Star in Watling Street.

Manager Stephanie Cooper, 27, revealed £50 of tickets had been sold since the prize was revealed this morning.

She said: “Everyone's been going round bugging each other to buy tickets. It's going to be big."

Miss Cooper said the pub had no target for how much it wanted to raise, adding: “We’ll just have to see how many people find out about it.”

The London 2012 opening ceremony on July 27 will be overseen by film-maker Danny Boyle and is expected to pull in a billion viewers worldwide.

Like most pub raffles, the Star’s costs £1 per ticket, with funds going jointly to Children in Need and Children with Cancer.

The Olympic tickets are thought to be the only prize on the bill.

The venue, which re-opened as a Hungry Horse chain pub in July, will kick off proceedings at 8pm with live music and comedy by circuit regular Dean Courtney.

Tickets can be bought in person at any time before Friday's draw.
